Regular posting of images

Some time ago I decided to try to increase my productivity by comitting to posting images on the blog 3-4 times a week. This is something many photobloggers try out, some with good results. Personally I have foound that it is really not for me. It has to do with the way I organize my time, and how long it takes for a picture to “mature” with me. I have found that I cannot go out to shoot some pictures and then immediately after decide which ones I like. I have to let them rest for at least a couple of days, maybe several weeks. I do post a few pictures immediately after I shoot them, but they are never properly processed, only exported directly from Lightroom. The other thing that goes against such a regularity in my posting is that I often have long periods where I spend all my photo time shooting, and other periods that I spend in front of the computer. Obviously I won’t finish many picture for the web when I shoot. Another problem I have with the picture of the day exersice is that it becomes so random. I want to try more consistency.

So, to align my exersice more with my own pace, and how I like to work, I have come up with this alternative. Each month I will try to assemble a small series of related photos. Maybe 3-7 each months. These small series will consist of finished pictures. The goal is to create collections that are both consistent and well executed. I will allow myself to browse my archive for older material, so the series may consist of any range from all fresh shots to all old shots. It doesn’t matter as long as I aim for the goal of consistency within each series and high quality.

The series will be presented as ordinary web galleries, and if you have a high speed connection (or lots of time), you may download higher quality pdfs. First one out should be finished by the end of this month.

There is only one small hickup for January and especially February. Our bathroom will be renovated during this time and we are moving out while they work. Living without a shower isn’t much fun. As a result of that I will have limited access to my computer and a web connection, but I will try to do my best to meet my deadlines.

I think posting photographs on a blog are wonderful. I have a very boring trading blog(boring to anyone but a die-hard capitalist), and like to spice it up with pictures from my art collection. Since I have a pretty decent collection, my readers are clamoring for more pictures and less boring content.

I had a look at you blog, and yes, the content is absolutely for hard core. But even they would want some joy in their everyday life, so posting pictures and art from time to time really makes it more interesting. At least I enjoyed the pictures, even if I had very little interest in the trading stuff (sorry about that, but it is really not my game).

As for my own blog, being a blog about photography it would be a bit awkward to not post photos at all.

Thanks for your comment and best whishes.

Yes, one of the many challenages of hosting a photo blog! I have tried the photo of the day with mixed results (for myself), but then it pushes me to understand why I make them in the first place. So I consider the blog photos as more of work in progress, than the final interpetation, which is when I would place an image on my web gallery.

    Doug,
I agree with you, I too consider these posts as work in progress. But these postings must come whenever it feels naturally for me. If I commit to posting as often as 3-4 days a week, it will take too much energy. Energy and focus I want to use on finishing photos properly.
