Found this link to how you should mat and frame your photos if you want them to last a long time.
The technique is actually quite simple, and I have used it several times with one exception, I use pressure sensitive tape. In this description they use paper with long fibers and paste to make the hinges. This slow down the process, but has the advantage of being fully reversible and proven as archival through centuries. Even if you don’t care that much about archival properties, the paper/paste solution has it’s advantages. There is no pressure sensitive tape that will make a truly stable bond. All of them will eventually get loose, and the picture will fall down in the frame. A properly treated wheat paste bond will only get loose if you moisten it.
I’m going to try this out in near future, and I will probably describe the process for those interested. Making wheat paste is really simple, and the rest is just a matter of being patient.
