Printing colors on the Harman Gloss FbAl is something I just can’t get right. Well, that’s not entirely true, the colors are very good, but I get a way too much bronzing in the blue areas for my taste. I’ve seen other color prints on Harman without that bronzing effect, but they were from a different printer than mine. It looks like it is something with the combination of the Epson 3800 and the paper that doesn’t quite match for blue, because I get the same result with both the Epson driver and Imageprint. The blue areas get a distinct mangenta sheen at certain angles.
On B&W, the Epson driver may create some bronzing patches when printing in RGB mode, but they do not show up in the darkest areas. In ABW mode the results are much better. I’m suspecting the Cyan ink to be the sinner. Imageprint is even better in B&W. I also have a B&W print from made using Quad Tone RIP, and it is slightly different again. Here I see a cyan sheen just wherer the highlights are almost paper white.
So far I still prefer to use Fine Art Pearl for color work, or when the gamut permits, some of the matt papers.
Just to clarify, these things are quite subtle, and if it hasn’t bothered your so far, don’t look for it. And if you’re wondering about using Harman paper, go ahead and try, I may be particularily picky about this, and frankly the paper is quite stunning all in all.
